Emergency Fund for AFCECO New Learning Center

Dear sponsors and supporters of AFCECO,

I write this at a moment of extreme urgency. We have only now learned that our funding for the AFCECO New Learning Center through USAID is being discontinued.

You might have received newsletters and read news reports in and out of Afghanistan over the past year know how amazing opportunity the AFCECO New Learning Center has been for the over 500 children in our Kabul orphanages. The academic support, the music program, art program, leadership workshop, computer training and language training programs have raised the children’s competency and capacity level far above anything they could possibly have gained without the center. In addition, the guest concerts, films, awards ceremonies and other functions the New Learning Center provided for this year have enriched the children with a world of talent and understanding.

Without the New Learning Center (NLC), the children will once again be sitting on the floor of a room in their orphanage, getting whatever additional instruction we can somehow manage to rotate around the neighborhood. The NLC provided added security because of its inherent centralizing of our programs, rather than having a lot of activity going in and out of the orphanages. To secure the NLC lease and pay our bills and gain breathing room to seek future funding, to have the children continue their beloved curricular and extracurricular programs at the NLC in March as they begin their school year, we must secure $80,000 by February 27th. If we do not secure this funding at that time we will lose this great opportunity for the children.
